Brief History of the ACH Network
The ACH (Automated Clearing House) Network was originally developed in 1972, with a nationwide version available by 1978. In 1980, the passage of the "Monetary Control Act" led the way to ACH operators being allowed to compete directly with the FED (Federal Reserve Banks) for ACH processing. The National Automated Clearing House Association (NACHA) manages the development, administration, and governance of the ACH Network.

So ACH has been around for quite a while but it didn't really start to catch on until the late 1990's and early 2000's, as a much more convenient, secure, and cost-effective (pennies on the dollar) means to make payments. The increasing cost of sorting, transporting, and archiving paper checks is making a big push to handle these payments electronically. If you compare the costs of wiring funds versus an ACH transaction to do the same exact thing, it's a "no-brainer". This has caused businesses to look to financial institutions that provide ACH origination services.

Since 1986, SBT has designed, developed, and supported ACH origination software, Cash Management software, and ultimately Correspondent Banking software servicing nearly 3,500 financial institutions nationwide daily. Contingency Planning
All of our servers are configured using dynamic IP technology that gives us the web-based control to point our website at any available IP address that we choose. Our primary site has dual WAN access from non-affiliated providers. If the primary connection fails for any reason, the secondary WAN connection is automatically utilized. In addition, the primary site is protected against power outages by batteries and a natural gas generator. SBT Business Technologies also maintains offsite servers to provide backup in the case of an outage at the primary site. The offsite servers are tested on a quarterly basis.
